Health Tip: Healing a Fractured Tailbone (HealthDay)

Thursday, 07 December 2006
HealthDay - (HealthDay News) -- A fractured tailbone can be extremely painful, and usually takes about four to six weeks to heal. To help minimize pain and stay comfortable while the injury is healing, follow these suggestions from the University of Michigan Health System: Use a doughnut cushion when seated. Apply an ice pack to the injury for about 20 minutes at a time, several times a day. Talk to your doctor about pain-relieving medications. Moving your bowels can be very painful, especially if you're constipated. Try to prevent constipation by drinking lots of fluids and eating plenty of fiber.
